Summer is nearing and even though the economy is spiraling further towards decline, vacation seems to be a good idea to escape the chaos. The economy has forced would-be vacationers to explore lesser visited destinations and to capitalize on drastic discounts in the big cities. Domestic airfares are reporting 12%-17% decrease this summer, thus making it affordable to fill those seats. These four cities make for mêlée of quick getaways, the road less traveled and most of all “recession approved.”
Charleston, South Carolina

Short day trips can be planned to Daniels Island, John’s Island, and Seabrook Island.

Only ninety minutes from New York City by Amtrak or Grey Hound, Philly‘s must have cheese steaks sandwiches receive the “recession approved” stamp. This special ends on June 13, 2009. The area is also an eco-tourist’s dream with a wildlife reserve that boasts over two hundred species of birds.
Chicago, Illinois
